A : Admission from Grade 8 in a Jewish Day School

Most of TanenbaumCHAT's intake is in this category, and we warmly welcome graduates of our Day Schools. Every student has had an opportunity to visit TanenbaumCHAT, and many will have older siblings who are TanenbaumCHAT students or graduates. The Application Form enclosed in the Application Pack should be returned to TanenbaumCHAT with the necessary documents and deposit by December 1, 2008. You will receive acknowledgement of your application. Please note the dates of Placement Tests. Please RSVP for the Placement Tests on the homepage. In due course you will be invited for an interview. At the interview, a short skills test may be administered.

B: Admission from Grade 8 from other schools

TanenbaumCHAT's New Stream Jewish Studies course is designed for most students in this category, as part of our policy to make a TanenbaumCHAT education accessible to all of the Jewish community (see the section 'THE JEWISH STUDIES NEW STREAM' in this booklet). Otherwise, entrance requirements and procedures are exactly the same as for all other students (see Section A, above). Students will not be accepted to New Stream unless they have reached the necessary level of Hebrew reading and writing well before the beginning of the school year. TanenbaumCHAT offers a preparatory course, which is scheduled for May 2009 (outside of school hours) for September 2008 entrance.

C: Late admission to Grade 9, or admission to Grade 10, 11, or 12

Late admission to Grade 9 - students seeking admission to Grade 9 after the application deadline, or after the school year has started, are accepted at the school's discretion. Applicants can only be considered if there is room in requested courses, and if they are considered able to catch up easily on work already missed. Late New Stream applicants will have to fulfill the minimum Hebrew requirements before they can start TanenbaumCHAT. Parents are advised that it is increasingly difficult to accommodate late applicants to Grade 9, and if they want their daughter/son to attend TanenbaumCHAT, it is best to apply at the correct time.

Admission to Grades 10, 11 or 12 - Students seeking admission to higher grades are considered on an individual basis. Prerequisites in Jewish and General Studies are required.

D: Applications from outside Canada

Students from overseas wanting to study at TanenbaumCHAT must meet the visa requirements of Immigration Canada. Applicants from outside Canada - to all Grades - are considered, evaluated and placed on an individual basis. As far as possible, we deal sympathetically with individual and family circumstances. It is of the utmost importance that students contact TanenbaumCHAT as soon as they know they are coming to Canada. ESL (English as a Second Language) support is available, but students applying to higher Grades must have a level of English that enables them to cope with High School studies. Students from overseas that are coming to Canada should take intensive English lessons before they arrive, and may have to repeat Grades in order to earn essential credits. As far as possible, students should arrive in Canada several weeks before the beginning of the school year in September.
